An original tabletop shooter where players aim lasers in real time, snap a single picture, and let the companion app unfold the battle: Light Speed: Arena is coming this Summer, releasing in retail in July 2025, alongside its three expansions Glyphon, BlackHole, and Analog Downgrade. Light Speed: Arena was successfully funded on Kickstarter in June 2024 by Tablescope, and Ares Games will distribute the game to retail.
Tablescope develops cutting-edge computer vision technology to empower tabletop game designers and publishers, as well as the players. Light Speed: Arena is the first game to use its technology through a companion app, transforming the way the outcomes are determined and visualized. It reimplements the 2003 lightning-fast card game designed by James Ernest and Tom Jolly, integrating it with this new computer vision tech.
Light Speed: Arena is a fast-paced, real-time tabletop shooter for 1–4 players that combines quick thinking with strategic tile placement. Engage in intense intergalactic battles, snap a photo with the companion app to resolve combat, and declare a winner. The expansions Glyphon and BlackHole add new factions and the ability to add one extra player each, boosting gameplay variability and strategy with fresh content and unique components.
The third expansion, Analog Downgrade, brings a retro twist to the game: it lets players enjoy the full game experience without the app, when technology fails, or when they simply want to embrace a more hands-on approach. Analog Downgrade features everything needed to manage battles manually, as faction-specific tokens, measuring tools, and even a clever cord for easy distance comparisons.
