Ares Games announces a distribution partnership with French game publisher Don’t Panic Games to distribute the English edition of Fighters of the Pacific, a fast-paced and easy to learn tactical board game of naval air battles set during WWII in the Pacific theatre. The game was successfully funded on Kickstarter in June 2021 and will release to retail in February 2023, after the Kickstarter fulfilment is completed.
Fighters of the Pacific is designed to provide an intense feeling of frantic air battles, with no dice, no ruler: all you need are the modular hex-based boards, sturdy and beautifully illustrated counters, and a lot of legendary WW2 aircrafts.
Designed by Frank Garibaldi, the game allows players to re-enact famous air battles in history with a simple but realistic mechanism, playing on a huge modular board, with dozens of aircrafts and ships. The players control multiple squadrons of fighters, bombers, and torpedo aircrafts, to dominate the skies and launch attacks on the enemy’s ships and islands.
Airplanes are moved individually on the hex grid, and when they maneuver to get an enemy plane in their sights, they must try to dodge or else take damage. Each airplane has its own attributes in terms of speed, armor, and special abilities, and each piece is illustrated as closely as possible to its historical counterpart to maximize players’ immersion.
Fighters of the Pacific comes with 10 historical scenarios, also playable in solo and multiplayer modes. Two expansions - Battle of Midway and Battle of the Coral Sea - will release to retail soon, allowing to replay historic battles with new aircraft carriers and their full squadrons, new types of aircraft and many scenarios for each stage of these battles.
