Ares Games will be back to UK Games Expo this year (June 3-5, Birmingham, stand 1-302/1-305), with their latest releases - The Thing: The Board Game and Quartermaster General: 1914. After two years not at the show, Ares will also bring the last Kickstarter copies of Sword & Sorcery Ancient Chronicles, a host of recent releases, and their “evergreen” lines, War of the Ring and Wings of Glory WW1 and WW2.
The Thing - The Board Game is a ‘hidden role’ game for 1-8 players based on the 1982 cult movie by John Carpenter where a research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims. The game mix different mechanics and an engaging characters depth to bring to the tabletop a tense, cinematic experience. One player is initially the Thing and the other players are humans. The purpose of the Thing is to infect others or to try to escape with them by behaving as a human. Human players have to feed themselves and keep the boiler and the generator on to avoid being in the cold and dark. Players must cooperate to survive – but who is really on their side?
Quartermaster General: 1914, the latest release in the Quartermaster General strategy games series by Ian Brody, is a must-have for anybody looking for an accessible grand-strategy game on the “Great War". It's a fast-playing card-driven wargame for two to five players that pits the Central Powers against the Entente Powers, with game mechanics reflecting the military, economy, and politics of the time. Each power has its own unique deck of cards, with its own strengths and strategies, providing strong replayability.
At Ares Games’ stand, attendees will also have the chance to get the last copies of the recent Sword & Sorcery Kickstarter release, Ancient Chronicles, including all the components of this new cycle: three campaign sets (Ancient Chronicles, Northwind Tales, and Myths of the Arena), new Heroes, multiple accessories and additional miniatures, to make your dungeon crawls even more challenging.
Sword & Sorcery is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game in which up to five players control heroes with unique powers, fighting together against the forces of evil - controlled by the game system itself - to save the kingdom and break the spell that binds their souls. Ancient Chronicles brings the game system to the next level, enhancing the storytelling and broadening the scope of the players’ adventures.
