The racing post-apocalyptic game Last Aurora starts to hit game stores in US on December 4th, alongside with its first gameplay expansion, Project Athena. Designed by Mauro Chiabotto and developed by Pendragon Game Studio, Last Aurora was successfully funded on Kickstarter and its English retail edition, published by Ares Games, is now releasing, as the backers' fulfillment was completed. It will be available in other countries in the coming weeks.
Last Aurora is set in an ice wasteland, after radioactive dust of the Last War has frozen the northern countries. Each player becomes a leader of a survivors' crew trying to reach the last icebreaker ship, Aurora, facing several challenges: make difficult ethical choices, overcome obstacles, fight unique and fearsome enemies. Players have to manage their crews to gather resources, recruit survivors, improve their vehicle, and fight their enemies as they race to reach the ship before it's too late. Every player has a board to manage his convoy and resources, combining his truck and devices, managing the survivors available to take actions and make them recover from their efforts.
In the Project Athena expansion, players have lost the Aurora and have to cross a new map fighting with Athena, the A.I. that decided to rebel against her creators activating the nuclear missile launch sequence, that led to the complete devastation of the planet, triggering the glaciation that today afflicts the few survivors. The expansion introduces new cards and mechanics, together with new types of survivor and enemy, a new resource (Nuclear battery), Energy weapons and the Alert mechanic.
In addition to the core set and the gameplay expansion, the release of the game also includes a component expansion, Last Aurora Plastic Miniatures. It brings 81 beautiful and detailed miniatures to replace the wood and carton components included in the game - trucks, survivors, Aurora token, and food, fuel, ammo and crate tokens.
