Masters of the Night, a new solitaire or cooperative game by Igrology and Ares Games, is launching today on Kickstarter, with an initial funding goal of $25,000. The campaign will run until February 5th, and the game is due to release in December 2020 in four languages – English, Italian, Polish and Spanish, with various publishing partners. Watch the trailer video.
In Masters of the Night, one to five players on the same side, as members of a vampire clan slowly regaining their former power. Just arrived after a long journey in a new, unfamiliar city, they are challenged to survive and establish their rule.
With the help of minions, loyal servants of the Vampire family, each player will fight against the agents of the Inquisition, cast fear into the hearts of the people with their hunts, and shape dread sigils in different city districts, all in preparation of the grand Blood Moon ritual, that will confirm their rule on the city and seal its fate. But the players must not waste time to prepare for the ritual, as their enemies will be searching for them constantly and even vampire magic may not stop them if the “veil” hiding them should drop.
Masters of the Night is played over a modular board composed of nine district tiles, representing the city where the family of vampires is trying to establish its rule. There are six playable vampires, each of them with specific abilities. Regardless of the number of players, two to five vampires can be used in a game. A single player can control more than one vampire – playing solo or with other players.
The game presents strong thematic elements and interesting decisions, as players must find a compromise between using powerful blood-magic and keeping the Veil of Secrecy which protects them. They must get control of key city locations with unique powers by recruiting minions and stop the actions of Inquisitors. There are multiple paths to defeat, and only one to victory - time plays against the vampires.
Several preview copies of Masters of the Night were sent to reviewers, and some previews were already published on YouTube channels – Rolling Solo (in English), Genus Solo (in German), and Corydan (in Italian). The game can also be tried in a digital version available on Tabletopia, and the beta rulebook is available for download.
