Battlestar Galactica – the 33 Campaign
On Friday, August 2nd, at 10:00 AM, Ares’ booth #341 will become a galactic battlefield in the third event of “Battlestar Galactica – the 33 Campaign”, inspired by “33”, the first episode of the Reimagined series.
The Battlestar Galactica and the rest of the Colonial fleet are relentlessly pursued by Cylons; 33 minutes after each faster-than-light jump, they arrive again, trying to exterminate what’s left of Mankind. The 33 events are held at all major shows Ares is attending during 2019 – each of them is a “jump” – the Colonial fleet is jumping from one event to the next, and the battle continues, involving hundreds of BSG fans around the world. It started at UK Game Expo, followed by Origins. The third jump will be at Gen Con and following at Essen Spiel and Pax Unplugged.
All attendees are welcome to the event – the participation is free: no previous knowledge of the game rules is required, as Ares’ demo crew will help new players to jump in the battle in a few minutes and spaceships to play with will be provided by Ares Games. All participating players will receive an exclusive “Admiral Adama” promo card as a reminder of the event, as well as a limited-edition event promo card, a discount coupon to bring the ship they’ve battled in home, and additional prizes offered by Ares and by the co-sponsor of the campaign, Slitherine Software, publisher of the official videogame for PC and consoles “Battlestar Galactica – Deadlock".
New games at the show
Wings of Glory - Tripods & Triplanes is a new stand-alone game adding a new twist to Wings of Glory: the WW1 historical setting is turned upside down by the crossover with H.G. Wells' novel "The War of the Worlds”. In Tripods & Triplanes, what should be the year the war ends, 1918, becomes the “Year of the Invasion.” Two different generations of Martian Tripods, one more advanced than the other, land on Earth, in two invasion waves. Players will take control of a Martian Tripod, set upon bringing death and destruction on our planet, or fly the most advanced flying machines created by Mankind during WW1, and try to use them to win the War of the Worlds.
The game debuts with the WW1 Wings of Glory Tripods & Triplanes Starter Set, including everything needed to start playing: one Mk.I “Locust” Tripod model and one Nieuport 16 Airplane model, fully assembled and painted, with special gaming bases, maneuver and damage cards, rulers, counters, markers and tokens, a rulebook and a scenario booklet, plus Tripod Packs and Accessories, featuring the Mk.I "Locust" and the Mk.II "Scarab", and additional counter sets and damage decks, a WW2 counter set and energy cubes.
Battlestar Galactica – Starship Battles – New Spaceship Packs: The combat miniature game based on the Battlestar Galactica™ TV series, allow players to take control of Colonial and Cylon spaceships and face each other in furious dogfights and daring missions, piloting beautiful pre-assembled and pre-painted miniatures, faithfully representing the spaceships from both the Re-imagined and Classic versions of the shows.
In addition to the Starter Set, five Spaceship Packs were released to ad more spaceships to the game, featuring two versions of the Viper MK.II and three of the Cylon Raider. Now, two new starships are coming: the Colonial Raptor and the Cylon Heavy Raider, each in three different versions. They will start to hit the US stores in September 2019, with the first copies available at Gen Con for sale.
Previews
Quartermaster General WW2 Second Edition revamps the award-winning game, originally released in 2014 by Griggling Games. In Quartermaster General, supply is crucial to keep armies and navies fighting. Destroy the enemy’s supply line, and its forces will surrender. Players control one or more countries on either the Axis or Allied team. Each major power has a unique deck of cards with which to command its forces, which are represented by wooden army and navy pieces. This Second Edition of WW2 Quartermaster General improves multiple elements of the original, while keeping all the qualities that made it critically acclaimed. If you have played before, we’re certain you’ll enjoy the changes. The game will be in demo at Gen Con and is expected to release in October 2019.
Waste Knights – Second Edition is a post-apocalyptic game of survival and adventure set in a dystopian Australia half a century from now. It is a 1-4 player experience allowing you to play cooperatively, competitively or in solo mode depending on the adventure you choose. The game is inspired by cult movies and books of the genre enabling players to immerse themselves in a ruined world full of gangs, mutated creatures, sentient machines and – most of all – unforgettable stories. Published by Galakta Games, Waste Knights was successfully funded on Kickstarter in March 2019 and will be distributed by Ares Games. In preview presentation at Gen Con.
