Galaxy Defenders' players are now able to reinforce their 'army' of heroes with the new expansion releasing this month: 5th Column. The expansion adds new agents with innovative classes and a powerful new Bio-Power Armor to the game. These new agents can be integrated into any GD campaign or stand-alone mission.
The expansion - developed thanks to the second Galaxy Defenders campaign on Kickstarter - can be played with the GD Core Set and the expansions Operation Strikeback and Extinction Protocol.
5th Column features two agents - the Psionic Class agent Archon, and the Guardian class and Support Class agent Knight.
The Archon is a member of an alien race struggling desperately against the invaders. Archon soldiers influence the course of the battle using psionic powers. Ten Psionic Power tokens are included, to be used once the Archon agent gains the Psionic Master skill. Psionic abilities may be gained during missions or in place of a skill, and range from self-healing to time warping (effectively skipping a whole enemy phase) or even time walking (allowing an extra Agent turn before the next alien turn begins). The Archon agent is also equipped with alien weapons, and does not need the Alien Knowledge skill to use them, since he’s using his own weapons.
The Knight was born a clone but due to his excellent abilities, the Agency has chosen him as a new recruit. He can be played in two different ways. As a Support class agent, the Knight foregoes his secondary weapon in order to equip more devices. He can move quickly where he is most needed, and he can ignore any enemy threatening him during his movement. As a Guardian class agent, the Knight acts like a mobile defense unit. He can intercept attacks directed at his teammates and he can “control” aliens, moving them away from the Agents when necessary or placing them in a better position for a deadly shot.
5th Column also includes two Bio-Power Armor figures. First introduced in the Extinction Protocol expansion, Power Armor uses incredible amounts of energy, but have devastating offensive capabilities and offer a high level of protection to the Agents, as well as increasing their innate abilities. Bio-Power Armor is a living being which becomes symbiotic with its Agent-host, turning him into a veritable war machine, with powerful defense and awesome attacks. Plus, as “generic” armor, any agent, including the new classes, can use it.
5th Column allows players to launch into a mission these new powerful agents and unleash their unique new classes, powers, and items, enhancing the game experience and helping them to face the aliens, now reinforced by the Elite Alien Legion expansion.
The complete rules for managing heroes and their powers and armors are covered in the Tactical Rulebook, downloadable in the Utility section of the Galaxy Defenders website.
