The Wings of Glory Miniature Game – Giants of the Sky project on Kickstarter took off on March 10th, at 2pm (UTC) and climbed high: the initial funding goal of $20,000 was achieved in less than three hours, and nine hours after the launch the project reached 230 backers and $35,000 pledged, unlocking the first stretch goal.
The crowdfunding campaign to release and add to the game the colossal WW1 bombers Handley-Page O/400 and Zeppelin Staaken R.VI. will run until April 2nd.
The unlocked stretch goal adds poster maps, to use together with the bomber models as gaming mats. There will be a different poster included in each model: Noman's Land in the No.207 Squadron O/400 (version A), Industrial Complex (loosely based on the Mannheim area, repeatedly bombed by the British in both WW1 and WW2) in the RNAS O/400 (version B), West London in the Abteilung 501 R.VI (version A) and East London in the Abteilung 500 R.VI (version B) model.
These maps are the same size (about 70 x 100 cm) as the existing Wings of Glory game mats, but to make them suitable for inclusion in the model packaging, they are going to be printed on light cardstock.
Other stretch goals to enhance the gameplay experience are planned for the campaign. The next goal, to be unlocked when the funding reaches $50,000, will add to the Kickstarter Edition of the bombers a deluxe, thick cardboard management card. At $65,000, in addition to the rules, each model will include two scenarios to play with its game mat.
