The Tripods & Triplanes, The War of the Worlds in Wings of Glory project on Kickstarter enters its final days with many stretch goals unlocked, and other two Tripods unveiled and included in the project as Add-Ons. The campaign will run until December 20th and, to support it, the WW1 Wings of Glory Tripods & Triplanes Contest is now running on BoardGameGeek. BGG members can prove their knowledge of the Great War against the Tripods and win a full Invasion pack as a prize, or in the case of already KS backers, a bundle with four additional tripod packs.
The second generation of tripods in the project includes the Mk.III "Squid" and the Mk.IV "Cuttlefish". The Squid is one of the most lethal weapons of the Martian invaders, agile and deadly. Its arrival often is a warning of the coming of a massive assault of the Tripods, but one of these scouts is well able to destroy Earthlings by himself. The Cuttlefish is the ultimate weapon of the invaders (or maybe just the forerunner of even worse things to come...), with powerful energy shields, long-range heat ray, and multiple black smoke launchers. The tripods packs features a fully painted and assembled model and its card, and can be included in the pledge as Add-Ons.
The Kickstarter project has achieved several stretch goals, adding improvements to the game like solo rules, compatibility with WW2 Wings of Glory, transparent acrylic cubes to display energy-full objectives, and extra-large terrain elements and a gaming mat. With the latest goals achieved, skill cards for Earth pilots have been added to all rewards, and backers of Invasion level also get an additional airplane added to their rewards for free - Kissenberth's Sopwith Camel.
As we write, the project counts about 600 backers and the funding is over $ 67,000. The next goal, at $ 70,000, will unlock Tripod vs. Tripod rules and components - to re-enact the moment in the war when Earth pilots finally found a way to control a tripod.
