The Tripods & Triplanes, The War of the Worlds in Wings of Glory crowdfunding campaign entered in its second week with more than 500 backers and $50,000 pledged. After the achievement of the initial funding goal of $30,000 in 29 hours, the project had three stretch goal unlocked, with important additions to the gameplay - solo rules and compatibility with WW2. The campaign will run until December 20th and a print-and-play kit is now available for players wanting to try the game.
Tripods & Triplanes is a Sci-Fi spin-off of Wings of Glory, introducing a new twist to the popular airplane miniature game that recreates aerial combat during the WW1 and WW2. The WW1 historical setting is turned upside down by the crossover with H.G. Wells' imaginative novel "The War of the Worlds": the knights of the air of WW1 battle against colossal fighting machines sent by the Martians to invade Earth. Players take control of an awesome Martian Tripod or fly on the most advanced flying machines created by Mankind during World War One, trying to use them to win the War of the Worlds. Tripods & Triplanes is a stand-alone game fully compatible with all WW1 Wings of Glory lime.
With the latest stretch goal unlocked, $50,000, Tripods & Triplanes becomes compatible also with WW2 Wings of Glory range. The previous goal, $45,000, had already unlocked a suitable set of rules to play solo against tripods and also co-operative play with multiple Earth pilots fighting against "artificially intelligent" pilots.
New stretch goals were reveiled: at $ 53,000, transparent acrylic cubes to display energy-full objectives, instead of counters, will be included in the game; at $ 56,000, extra-large terrain elements (a tripod crater, and a trench) to use with the gaming mat; and at $ 60,000, a very special airplane pack - free to all backers Invasion level and up - Kissenberth's Sopwith Camel.
